Brazilian Judge Issues 128-Year Sentence To $190M Crypto Ponzi Scheme Leader

A federal court in Brazil has sentenced a major leader of a crypto Ponzi scheme that defrauded investors of over $190 million to 128 years in prison. Two accomplices also received lengthy sentences, while others were acquitted due to insufficient evidence. The scheme, operated by Braiscompany, promised an 8% monthly return on crypto investments but stopped payments in January 2023, prompting an investigation by the Brazilian Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office.
